Correct Answer - Option 4 : 400

GIVEN:

The difference between two numbers is 1690.

When the greatest number is divided by the smaller number, the quotient is 5 and remainder is 90.

CONCEPT:

Dividend = Divisor x Quotient + Remainder

CALCULATION:

Suppose the greatest number is A and the smallest number is B.

⇒ A – B = 1690      -----(1)

According to question –

⇒ A = 5 × B + 90

⇒ A – 5B = 90      -----(2)

Now, equation (1) – equation (2), we have –

⇒ (A – B) – (A – 5B) = 1690 – 90

⇒ 4B = 1600

⇒ B = 400

∴ The smallest number is 400.
