Correct Answer - Option 4 : 20

Given:

Total number of innings = 42

Average = 30 runs

The difference of his maximum and minimum score = 100

New number of innings = 40

New average = 28 runs

Formula:

Average of n numbers a1, a2, .…. an = (a1 + a2 + ... + an)/n

Calculation:

et the maximum score be ‘H’ and minimum score be ‘L’.

Total score in 42 innings = 30 × 42 = 1260     ----(1)

H – L = 100 (given)     ----(2)

If max. And min. Score are removed then

Total score in 40 innings = 40 × 28 = 1120     ----(3)

Subtract equation (3) from (1) we get,

H + L = 1260 – 1120 = 140     ----(4)

Subtract equation (2) from (4)

2L = 140 – 100

⇒ L = 20

∴ Minimum score is 20.
