  • Between 1871 and 1897, Sayyid Ahmed Khan launched “ Tahzib al- Akhlaq”.
  • Tehzib al- Akhlaq came into being as a result of Sir Syed’s ultimate motto of religious, educational, and social reform. He held morality as the common ground for all of these reforms that he earnestly wanted to carry out.
  • He firmly believed that the political decline among Muslims (the most immediate of all the troubles) was related to none but their moral decline

Objectives of Tahzibul Akhlaq:-

  • (i) Establishment of Social Harmony among the Muslims of India.
  • (ii) Revival of True Islamic Traditions
  • (iii) Remove the misconception of Islam from the masses in regards to modern developments.
  • Tahzibul Akhlaq faced stiff resistance from the Muslims of India but at the same time if found its well-wishers also.
  • Tahzib al- Akhlaq was trying to present the true picture of Islam. From the inception in 1870 till 1881, Tahzib al- Akhlaq was discontinued twice and finally in 1881 it was merged with Aligarh Gazette.

  • Jamalal-dinal-Afghani in full Jamal al-DIn al-Afghani al-Sayyid Muḥammad ibn Ṣafdar al-Ḥusayn, also called Jamal al-Dīn al-Asadabadi, (born 1838, Asadabad, Persia (now in Iran)—died March 9, 1897, Istanbul, Ottoman Empire (now in Turkey), Muslim politician, political agitator, and journalist whose belief in the potency of a revived Islamic civilization in the face of European domination significantly influenced the development of Muslim thought in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
  • Nawab Mohsin-ul-Mulk was born on 9th December 1837 in the town of Etawah, a part of United Provinces. He was the son of Syed Mir Zaamin Ali. He got his early education in and around Etawah. He was given the education of Persian and Arabic. He participated in Aligarh and he was also included in those people who were the founder of All India Muslim League.
  • Ismail Yusuf  (c. 1870 - 1915), was an early 20th-century Indian businessman and the proprietor of Bombay Steam Navigation Company. He is also known as Haji Ismail Yusuf. The Yusuf family own vast amounts of land in Mumbai and in the vicinity as is one of the ten largest private landowners in Mumbai.
