1. give up time-consuming social habits and learn how to score good grades
2. be an active participant in the group work and learn social skills
3. prepare themselves to conform to the rules and regulations of society without questioning

Correct Answer - Option 2 : be an active participant in the group work and learn social skills

CBSE under NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) implemented a model of progressive education for national policies and progressive educational ideas and pedagogical practices

John Dewey who gave the concept of 'progressive education', felt that education is a social process, and one of the prime functions of the school is to help in the socialization of the child. He believed that-

  • Since human life is not only the result of biological and physiological functions, the child has also to get training in the intellectual, social, and cultural aspects of existence.
  • a child needs to be socialized, acculturated, and provided with knowledge and skills of survival together.
  • home, neighborhood, community, religion, media, etc. have a great influence on the socialization of the child.
  • freedom, creative self-expression, and active participation are the main components of this theory.
  • main qualities of this education program are learning by doing, hands-on projects, and learning through experience.
  • helps one to develop certain essential skills like reading, writing, communicating, handling objects, decision making, examining and analyzing things, group living. etc.
  • a child has to get training in the intellectual, social, and cultural aspects of existence. It has to learn the norms and values of the group by active participation to become an accepted and effective member of the group.

Thus from the above-mentioned points, it is clear that in the progressive model of education as implemented by CBSE, socialization of children is done in such a way so as to expect them to be active participants in the group work and learn social skills.
