Correct Answer - Option 1 : 20000

Given:

Percentage of voters cast their votes = 90%

Percentage of invalid votes in casted votes = 20%

The ratio of votes get by A and B = 5 : 7

Number of extra votes get by Candidate A and B = 2400

Concept used:

Total number of voters = {Total number of casted votes/(100 – Percentage of voters did not cast their votes)} × 100

Calculation:

Let the votes get by candidate A and candidate B is 5x and 7x respectively.

Then, 7x – 5x = 2400

⇒ 2x = 2400

⇒ x = 1200

Total valid votes = (5 + 7) × 1200

⇒ 14400

Total casted votes = {14400/(100 – 20)} × 100

⇒ {14400/80} × 100

⇒ 180 × 100

⇒ 18000

Total voters = (18000/90) × 100

⇒ 200 × 100

⇒ 20000

∴ The total number of voters is 20000.
