Correct Answer - Option 4 : 30, 40

Given:

Ratio of two numbers = 3 : 4

New ratio after subtracting 5 from each number = 5 : 7

Calculation:

Let the number be 3x and 4x respectively

After subtracting 5, 1st number = 3x – 5

2nd number = 4x – 5

According to the question,

(3x – 5)/(4x – 5) = 5 : 7

⇒ 21x – 35 = 20x – 25

⇒ x = 10

⇒ First number = 3x = 3 × 10 = 30

⇒ Second number = 4x = 4 × 10 = 40

∴ The numbers are 30 and 40
