Correct Answer - Option 1 : Both statement I and statement II are true

Statement I: All knowledge is a recollection. It is true on a certain account → True

The doctrine of recollection solves the Meno paradox because it says that we are not in the situation that the paradox says we are. The paradox works only if gaining knowledge is like putting something new (or new information) into the soul.

Statement II:  All men by nature, desire understanding → True

'All men by nature desire' to know. And indication of this is the delight we take in our senses; for even apart from their usefulness they are loved for themselves; and above all others the sense of sites.

Hence, the correct answer is "Both statement I and statement II are true".

  1. The doctrine of recollection or anamnesis, is the idea that we are born possessing all knowledge and our realization of that knowledge is contingent on our discovery of it. The goal of Recollection is to get back to true Knowledge. To do this, one must overcome the body.
  2. Aristotle was driven by a desire for knowledge, and believed that human beings, by virtue of having rationality, are animals that naturally desire explanations of things in the world.
