Correct Answer - Option 4 : Tipu should not accept Subsidiary Alliance.

The correct answer is Tipu should accept Subsidiary Alliance.

  • The war was declared on Travancore in 1789.
  • The Governor-General of Bengal, Lord Cornwallis declared war on Tipu Sultan.
  • Tipu was defeated in the first phase of the war.

  • The war ended with the Treaty of Seringapatam in 1792.
    • Tipu should give half of his State to the British including the areas of Malabar, Dindigul, Coorg, and Baramahal. Hence option 2 is correct.
    • Tipu also had to surrender two of his sons as surety to the British till he paid his due. Hence option 3 is correct.
    • Tipu Sultan paid Rs.3.5 Crore as war indemnity to the British. Hence option 1 is correct.
    • There was no provision of the subsidiary alliance in the treaty, thus, option 4 is wrong.
