Correct Answer - Option 3 : 1 ∶ 3

Given

Mukesh travels 65 km in 3 hours by train and another 35 km by bus in 2 hrs.

Somesh travels 80 km by bus at 40km / hr and 160km by train at 80 km / hr.

Formula used∶

Average speed = \(\frac{{{\rm{Total\;distance\;}}}}{{{\rm{Total\;time\;}}}}\)

Calculations

Average speed of mukesh = Total distance travelled / Total time taken

⇒ (65 + 35) / (3 + 2)

⇒ 20 km / hr

Average speed of Somesh = Total distance travelled / Total time taken

Total time taken by somesh = 80 / 40 + 160 / 80 = 4 hr

Total distance = 80 + 160 = 240 km

Average speed = \(\frac{{{\rm{Total\;distance\;}}}}{{{\rm{Total\;time\;}}}}\)

⇒ 240 / 4

⇒ 60 km / hr

Ratio of average speed of mukesh to average speed of Somesh = 20 / 60

⇒ 1 ∶ 3
