Correct Answer - Option 4 : sensitizes other children not to bully or to put the disadvantaged children down

The least restricted school environment is a type of arrangement in which disabled children learn in the regular classroom along with peers.

  • A special school is less restrictive than a residential institution, the child still misses out on normal school life.
  • The special school limits the child's opportunities to participate in regular activities with non-disabled children.
  • Integrated education in a regular school provides more freedom and opportunity for the child to interact with others compared to the special school. It is less restrictive than the special school.
  • Full inclusion is the least restrictive setting for the child.

  • All disabled children (as well as disabled adults) should have the opportunity to live as normally as possible, in conditions that are as close as possible to the rest of society.
  • In other words, they should have the opportunity to live in the least restrictive environment.
  • Apart from the disabled child, a non-disabled child also gets sensitized to not bully the disadvantaged children. They also play a supportive role for disabled students.

Thus from the above-mentioned points, it is clear that by placing students in the least restricted school environment, the school sensitizes other children not to bully or to put the disadvantaged children down.

Two principles can guide you in selecting the educational setting for the disabled child. These are-

  1. All disabled children (as well as disabled adults) should have the opportunity to live as normally as possible, in conditions that are as close as possible to the rest of the society. In other words, they should have the opportunity to live in the least restrictive environment.
  2. All children should get the facility for education in keeping with their abilities.
