Correct Answer - Option 2 : x < y

Calculation:

l. 2x2 + 23x + 56 = 0

⇒ 2x2 + 16x + 7x + 56 = 0

⇒ 2x(x + 8) + 7(x + 8) = 0

⇒ (2x + 7) (x + 8) = 0

x = -7/2, -8

ll. 12y2 + 41y + 35 = 0

⇒ 12y2 + 21y + 20y + 35 = 0

⇒ 3y(4y + 7) + 5(4y + 7) = 0

⇒ (3y + 5) (4y + 7) = 0

y = -5/3, -7/4

Comparison between x and y (via Tabulation):

Value of x

Value of y

Relation

-7/2

-5/3

x < y

-7/2

-7/4

x < y

-8

-5/3

x < y

-8

-7/4

x < y

∴ The result will be x < y.
