  • 'What has been heard from God?' - it is Vedas.
  • It means that which has been heard or communicated from the beginning.
  • It is the revelation of cosmic and eternal principles and processes
  • Four Vedas are called shruti scripture because knowledge transfer through hearing
  • Sruti represent the philosophical aspect of the Vedas and Upanishads

Smriti:

  • 'What is remembered?' - a compendium of Vedas/Upanishads for ordinary people
  • It means which is remembered or which is based upon memory. In other words, which is produced out of human intellect.
  • This the recollection or remembered scripture.
  • Puranas, Ramayanas, Mahabharatas, Laws of Manu, etc. are smriti.
  • It can be translated and made into cartoon strips.
  • Smriti is an application of philosophical ideas.

Therefore, Both A and R are correct and R is the correct explanation of A
