Correct Answer - Option 2 : A - II, B - III, C - IV, D - I

Communication is more than mere transferring or transmission of ideas or thoughts. It is not a static act. Communication is, therefore, a process of sharing or exchange of ideas, information, knowledge, attitude, or feeling among two or more persons through certain signs of odd symbols.

There are many barriers to communication and these may occur at any stage in the communication process. Barriers may lead to your message becoming distorted and you, therefore, risk wasting both time and/or money by causing confusion and misunderstanding. Effective communication involves overcoming these barriers and conveying a clear and concise message.

Communication Barriers Description
Semantic Barriers
  • The Semantic Barriers refers to the misunderstanding between the sender and receiver arising due to the different meanings of words, and other symbols used in the communication.
  • Differences in dialect, cultural differences, body language, and the choice of word, pronunciation differences, and spelling errors are the main causes of a semantic barrier.

These differences result in the faulty interpretation of the message.

Psychological Barriers
  • Psychological or Emotional Barriers refers to the psychological state i.e. Opinions, attitudes, status consciousness, emotions, etc. of a person that deeply affects the ability to communicate.
  • Communication largely depends on the mental condition of a person.
  • Lack of attention, premature evaluation, poor retention, loss by transmission, distrust, emotions, etc. result in psychological barriers to communication.
Personal Barriers
  • The Personal Barriers relate to the factors that are personal to the sender and receiver and act as a hindrance in the communication process.
  • These factors include life experiences, emotions, attitudes, behavior that hinders the ability of a person to communicate.
  • Lack of listening skills, selective attention, lack of knowledge, lack of vocabulary, lack of time, etc. result in personal barriers to communication.
Physical Barriers
  • Physical barriers are the communication barriers that result from the physical distraction or any external element from the surrounding environment which may hinder the smooth flow of communication—the sending and receiving of message between the sender and receive.
  • Factors that cause physical barriers may result from noise or a non-conducive surrounding, different time zones of the sender and the receiver, lack of physical clarity in the channel, and distance.

Thus, option 2 is the correct answer.
