Best answer
Correct Answer - Option 1 : x > y

Calculation:

l. x2 – 25x + 156 = 0

⇒ x2 – (13 + 12)x + 156 = 0

⇒ x2 – 13x – 12x + 156 = 0

⇒ x(x – 13) – 12(x – 13) = 0

⇒ (x – 13) (x – 12) = 0

x = 13, 12

II. y2 + 33y + 162 = 0

⇒ y2 + (27 + 6)y + 162 = 0

⇒ y2 + 27y + 6y + 162 = 0

⇒ y(y + 27) + 6(y + 27) = 0

⇒ (y + 27) (y + 6) = 0

y = -27, -6

Comparison between x and y (via Tabulation):

Value of x

Value of y

Relation

13

-27

x > y

13

-6

x > y

12

-27

x > y

12

-6

x > y

∴ x > y
