Correct Answer - Option 1 : South

Given:

The following table represents the populations below and above poverty line in four regions of a country.

Formula used:

Percentage(%) = (population of below poverty line/ total population of region)× 100

Calculation:

Region                     Below poverty line               Above poverty line               total population

North                             12728                                 86932                                 99660

East                               13055                                 82459                                 95514

South                             17287                                 85913                                 103200

West                               17031                                93753                                  110784

Percentage(%) = (population of below poverty line/ total population of region)× 100

⇒ North(%) = (12728/99660)× 100

⇒ 12.7%

East(%) = (13055/95514)× 100

⇒ 13.6%

South(%) = (17287/103200)× 100

16.7%

West(%) = (17031/110784)× 100

⇒ 15.3%

∴  The percentage of population living below poverty line is largest for south region.
