Correct Answer - Option 3 : 1542

The correct answer is 1542.

  • In 1542 AD, Rao Maldev attacked Bikaner.
  • Bikaner Rao Jaitasi was defeated in the battle of Saheba (Pahoba).
  • Maldev took the control of Bikaner.
  • The management of Bikaner was handed over to the commander, Kunampa.

  • Bhima, son of Rao Jaitasi, went to Delhi for Sher Shah Suri's help.
  • A Marital alliance with Jaisalmer secured Marwars western borders but Maldev was fiercely opposed by the dispossessed chiefs of Bikaner and Merta who made an alliance with the Afghan chief of Delhi against Marwar.
  • Shershah invaded Marwar with an army of 80,000 horsemen but he still hesitated to attack the Rathore army of 50,000 horsemen.
  • He thus forged letters and deceived Maldev into abandoning his commanders to their fate.
  • After the Battle of Sammel, Khawas Khan Marwat and Isa Khan Niyazi took possession of Jodhpur and occupied the territory of Marwar from Ajmer to Mount Abu in 1544.
  • However, Maldev reoccupied his lost territories in 1545.

  • Rao Maldeo Rathore was a king of Jodhpur.
    • He was the son of Ganga, the ruler of Jodhpur.
    • He was born in 1511 & sat on the throne of Marwar in 1531 AD.
    • At that time, his rule was only on the Parganas of Sojat and Jodhpur.
  • The chieftains of Jaitaran, Pokaran, Phalodi, Barmer, Kotra, Khed, Maheva, Siwana, Merta etc. used to provide only military assistance to the King of Jodhpur as per requirement.
  • But in all other ways, they were independent rulers of their respective territories.
