  • The Gitanjali was written by a world-famous poet of India Rabindranath Tagore
  • It is a collection of Bengali poems which is mainly written in the Bengali language which was published on 14th August 1910.
  • It consists of many poems lately it famous as the Rabindra Sangeet song in the territory of West Bengal and the other part of India as well as the Western part of the World.
  • The English translations of  Gitanjali or Songs were done by the Gurudev itself. It is a collection of 103 English prose poems.
  • The Bengali part of Gitanjali was first published in November 1912 by the Indian Society of London. It contained translations of 53 poems from the original written Gitanjali which was in the Bengali language, as well as 50 other poems from his other part of the poems.
  • Some of the worklists of Gitanjali contain like Amar Sonar Bangla, Ekla Cholo Re, Birpurush Our national Anthem Jan Gan Man, etc.

  • Rabindranath Tagore was born on 7th May 1861 in the Bengali Brahim family. He was the youngest of thirteen children in the Jorasanko Bhavan in Calcutta (Kolkata) to Debendranath Tagore (Father) and Sarada Devi (Mother).
  • He was the first non-European and first from Asia who conferred with the Nobel Prize in Literature for the extraordinary "Gitanjali" in 1913.
  • He married Mrinalini Devi in 1883 and survived with five children.
  • In 1915, he was awarded an order of knighthood by King George V, but later on, he abandoned the Knighthood because of the Jalliahwala Massacre in 1919.
  • Rabindranath Tagore founded the famous Visha-Bharati(Santiniketan) in 1917.

  • Satyendranath Tagore(Elder brother) of Rabindranath Tagore was the first Indian who passed the elite Indian Civil Services examination from India.
  • Mahatama Gandhi was the person who given the title "Gurudev" to Rabindranath Tagore.
