  • In March 1920 Gandhiji launched the non-violent non-cooperation movement.
  • The main aim was to encourage swadeshi principles like hand spinning and weaving and boycott support to the Britishers.
  • To establish unity among Hindus and Muslims, Gandhiji joined Khilafat-Movement with the non-cooperation movement.
  • The Khilafat movement was launched against Britishers in the support of the Ottoman caliphate.
  • It was launched under the leadership of Ali Brothers (Maulana Mohammed Ali and Maulana Shaukat Ali), Maulana Azad, Hakim Ajmal Khan, and Hasrat Mohani.

  • Swadeshi Movement:
    • It was launched on August 7, 1905, in Calcutta.
    • The main aim was to boycott British products and encourage swadeshi(Indian) products.
    • After the Bengal partition by Lord Curzon on 16 Oct 1905, It spread faster throughout the country.
  • Sepoy Mutiny:
    • It is also called the First War of Indian Independence.
    • A rumor spread among the sepoys that the grease used to lubricate the cartridges was a mixture of pigs’ and cows’ lard which lead to the revolt.
  • Civil Disobedience Movement:
    • It was launched by Mahatma Gandhi on 12 March 1930.
    • The main reason behind the movement was the salt tax imposed by the Britishers.
    • Dandi March was on of the biggest movement under it which incorporated huge mass throughout the country.
