National Curriculum Framework, 2005, is a complete document to rejuvenate Indian School as well as Teacher Education. The guiding principles of NCF, 2005, focuses on connecting knowledge to life outside the school, ensuring that learning shifted away from rote methods, enriching the curriculum so that it goes beyond textbooks, and making examination more flexible and integrating them with classroom life. As per National Curriculum Framework, 2005:

  • Learning should be made an enjoyable activity.
  • The curriculum structure and school should be designed to make school a satisfactory place for students to feel secure and valued.
  • The curriculum should focus on the holistic development of the individual and enhance physical and mental development of the child.
  • The five basic principles of National Curriculum Framework 2005 are as follows:
    • Connecting knowledge to life outside school
    • Ensuring that students do not just learn mechanically, without thinking
    • Enriching the curriculum so that it goes beyond textbooks
    • Integrating exams with classroom life to make them more flexible
    • Nurturing an identity of prime importance informed by caring concerns within the country’s democratic polity
  • According to NCF, 2005, the role of a teacher has to be facilitative.
  • NCF 2005 emphasizes on the constructivist approach of learning as it focuses on the active participation of learner through engaging activities.
  • According to NCF 2005, errors are important because they provide an insight into the child’s thinking and help to identify solutions.

Hence, the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), 2005 recommends that children’s school education must be linked with the outside school environment
