Correct Answer - Option 3 : Newton/meter

CONCEPT:

  • Surface Tension: The surface of the liquid tends to shrink its surface area. This phenomenon is called surface tension.
  • This phenomenon is commonly seen in day to day life. When some water is dropped on the surface, it will try to contract.
  • The reason for surface tension is cohesive forces between liquid molecules.
  • The mathematical expression of surface tension is the force (F) applied per unit length of surface (l).
  • S = F / L

EXPLANATION:

  • Since surface tension is force per unit length, its unit will be
  • unit of force / unit of length
  • = Newton / meter
  • Unit of force is newton and the unit of length is meter.
  • So,  unit of surface tension is Newton/meter
  • Newton/meter is the correct answer.
