  • Rajasthan was the first state in the country to implement National Policy on Biofuels-2018.
    • Its implementation was also approved by high-power Biofuel Authority.

  • Rajasthan state government will focus on increasing production of oilseeds. 
  • Centre for Excellence in Udaipur will be established to promote research in fields of alternative fuels and energy resources.

  • National Policy on Biofuels-2018 categorises of biofuels into 3 subtypes:
    • First-generation (1G): Basic biofuels
      • This includes conventional biofuel.
      • They are made from things like sugar, starch, or vegetable oil.
    • Second generation (2G): Advanced Biofuels– Second Generation (2G) ethanol, Municipal Solid Waste (MSW).
      •  Second generation (2G) biofuels are produced from sustainable feedstock.
      • They will be produced from crops which are not useful for human consumption.
    • Third generation (3G): Bio-CNG etc.
      • ​3rd generation biofuels will be obtained from algae.​
