Correct Answer - Option 1 : 24

Given:

The difference between the present ages of father and son = 25

The ratio of age of father 9 years ago to the age of son eight years ago = 5 ∶ 2

Calculations:

Let the present age of father and son be F and S respectively.

According to question,

⇒ F – S = 25     ----(1)

The ratio of age of father 9 years ago to the age of son eight years ago = 5 ∶ 2

⇒ (F – 9)/(S – 8) = 5/2

⇒ -2F + 5S = 22      ----(2)

Multiply equation (1) with 5

⇒ 5(F – S) = 25 × 5

⇒ 5F – 5S = 125     ----(3)

Add equation (2) and (3)

⇒ -2F + 5S + 5F – 5S = 22 + 125

⇒ 3F = 147

⇒ F = 49

Put the value of F in equation (1)

⇒ 49 – S = 25

⇒ S = 24 years

Present age of son is 24 years
