In a belt drive system, if T1 is the tension on the tight side, T2 is the tension on the slack side and V is the velocity of the belt, the power transmitted is _______.
1. (T2 – T1) V
2. (T1 – T2) V

Correct Answer - Option 2 : (T1 – T2) V

Explanation:

Power transmitted in a belt-drive,

P = T × ω

T = F × r

Hence, P = (F × r) × ω, rearranging the terms

P = F × (r × ω)

P = F × V

Also in case of the belt-drive system

Net force-producing torque in the same direction is (T1 - T2)

Hence, Power transmitted, P = (T1 - T2) V.
