Correct Answer - Option 1 : 2.25 km

Given:

Speed of thief is 15 km/hr and speed of police man is 18 km/hr

Concept used:

Speed = Distance/time

Distance = Time × speed

Concept of relative speed

Relative speed is a speed of one moving object with respect to another moving object

Calculation:

Both thief and police man is running in same direction then by the concept of relative speed

∴ Relative speed of police man = (18 – 15) = 3 km/hr

Now, the police man catches the thief after 45 min

∴ Distance is covered by the police man to catch the thief = (45/60) × 3 = 2.25 km

∴ The Distance is covered by the police man to catch the thief is 2.25 km
