The frequency of transverse vibration is given by 

where l = length of the vibrating string 

T = tension in the string 

m = mass per unit length of the string 

Therefore, the frequency of transverse vibration of a stretched string can be increased by 

1. decreasing the length of the string 

2. decreasing the radius of the string 

3. increasing the tension T in the string
