A train passes the platform in 18 seconds and a man standing on the platform in 8 seconds. If the length of the train is 100 metres, the length of the platform is:
1. 125 m
2. 140 m
3. 150 m
4. 130 m

Correct Answer - Option 1 : 125 m

Given:

 Time taken by train to cross a man = 8 seconds 

Time taken by train to cross a platform = 18 seconds

Length of the train = 100 metres 

Formula Used :

Distance = Speed × Time

Calculation :

let the length of the platform be x 

Total distance covered by train in 18 sec = Lenght of train + length of the platform

⇒  D = (100 + x) metres

speed of the train = 100/8 m/s 

 Total distance covered by train= speed of train × total time taken

100 +x = (100/8) × 18

⇒ x = 225 - 100

⇒x = 125 m

∴ The length of the platform is 125 m
