Correct Answer - Option 3 : 1917

The Correct Answer is 1917.

  • In 1917 Gandhiji was requested to look into the problems of the farmers in the context of indigo planters of Champaran in Bihar.
  • The European planters had been forcing the peasants to grow indigo on 3/20 part of the total land (called tinkathia system).
  • Gandhi travelled across the district to different villages, meeting farmers and taking note of their sufferings and complaints against the forced indigo cultivation.
  • His protest led to the abolishing of the exploitative tinkathia system.
  • The victory at Champaran established Gandhiji in India’s struggle against the British raj.
  • This was the first Civil Disobedience Movement by Gandhi Ji in India.
