Ashtadhyayi
  • Ashtadhyayi was written by Panini, a Sanskrit Philologist, who is also known as the “Father of Linguistics”.
  • "Ashtadhyayi" or “Eight Chapters” written in 6th to 5th century BCE provides knowledge about four thousand rules used in the Sanskrit language.
  • It sums up in 4,000 sutras that had evolved in the Vedic religion.
Malvikagnimitra
  • Malvikagnimitram is compositions of Kalidasa (5th century CE), he was in the court of Chandragupta II, also known as  Vikramaditya.
  • Kalidasa also wrote Abhijnanashakuntalam which is considered to be one of the best hundred literary works in the world.
Harshacharita
  • The Harshacharita is a biography of Harshavardhana, the ruler of Kannauj, composed in Sanskrit by his court poet, Banabhatta (in 7th century)
  • Harsha is known mainly through the works of Banabhatta named Harsacharita (“Deeds of Harsha”).
  • The work depicts the court and times of the Buddhist emperor Harsha of northern India.
  • Bana’s biography of Harsha provides valuable information about the period, though with some exaggeration in the emperor’s favour. 
  • Written in the ornate kavya style, involving extremely lengthy constructions, elaborate descriptions, and poetic devices, the work has great vitality and a wealth of keenly observed detail. 
  • Himself a poet, Harsha composed three Sanskrit works: Nagananda, Ratnavali, and Priyadarsika.
Rajatarangini
  • Kashmir is known to have an ‘uninterrupted’ recorded history of five millennia with the Rajatarangini, composed by Kalhana, a 12th century (1100-1150) native Sanskrit versifier, recording the first 4,000 years.
  • The meaning of the word Rajatarangini is the River of Kings.
    The book Rajatarangini deals with the history of the north-western Indian subcontinent, the kings of Kashmir.
  • The Book contains 7826 verses, which are divided into eight books called Tarangas (waves).
