Correct Answer - Option 4 : Surat

The Correct Answer is Surat.

  • With the British coming to Calcutta, the importance of Madras and Bombay increased as the trading centers and centers like Surat, Murshidabad, Masulipatnam began to decline.
Bombay gave fierce competition to Surat where East India Company shifted its headquarters in 1668.
  • With the growth of Bombay, the importance of Surat declined as a result of which, merchants, traders, and shipbuilders shifted their activities from Surat to Bombay as it attracted more profit and growth.

  • Surat is a port city situated on the banks of the Tapi river.
  • Vishakapatnam Port is India's third-largest state-owned port by volume of cargo handled and the largest on the Eastern Coast.
