The process of learning is influenced by a variety of personal factors like movement, repetition, feedback, stress, and emotions. Learning takes place as a result of the emotions experienced by us.

  • Emotions can be termed as motivators of human behavior and learning and as such behavior can be directed and activated by emotions.
  • Emotions can be both positive and negative.

Emotional factor affecting learning:

  • Desirable or positive emotional conditions enhance the quality and speed of learning. Happiness, joy, and satisfaction are always favorable of any type of learning.
  • Adverse or negative emotional conditions, on the other hand, hinder learning. The situations that evoke negative emotions are avoided by us. 
  • Our emotional competency shows how much of that potential we have realized by learning and mastering skills and translating these skills into coping strategies of practical life.
  • Emotions promote the learning of information that will help us in making appropriate responses in the future. 
  • Emotions aid in verbal and non-verbal communication by helping the listener/observer understand what we are experiencing.
