Correct Answer - Option 2 : Afforestation

Coastal zoning:

  • It is a process of delineating the coastal areas into the land and sea use zones, designating permitted, prohibited, and conditional uses in order to plan better management of the coastal and surrounding areas to reduce coastal vulnerability stemming from sea-level rise, changing weather patterns, storm surges, and coastal erosion, which are challenging traditional systems for use and development of coastal lands.
  • Increasing demand for coastal resources has led, in some cases, to degradation through a loss of habitat and fisheries resources, reduced water quality and quantity, accelerated erosion, and accumulation of pollution.

Deforestation:

  • It refers to the decrease in forest areas across the world that are lost for other uses such as agricultural croplands, urbanization, or mining activities.
  • Greatly accelerated by human activities since 1960, deforestation has been negatively affecting natural ecosystems, biodiversity, and the climate.
  • The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization estimates the annual rate of deforestation to be around 1.3 million km2 per decade.

Urban development:

  1. covers infrastructure for education, health, justice, solid waste, markets, street pavements, and cultural heritage protection.
  2. These constructions usually form part of specific sector programs, including capacity-building measures.
  3. Urban development can magnify the risk of environmental degradation.

Afforestation

  • It is the process of introducing trees and tree seedlings to an area that has previously not been forested.
  • Afforestation can be done through tree planting and seeding, naturally or artificially. Similarly, reforestation can be considered a form of afforestation.

Hence, afforestation is not true for disturbing the natural environment.
