Correct Answer - Option 2 : Velocity is an scalar quantity

CONCEPT:

The difference between speed and velocity is given by:

Velocity Speed

The rate at which an object changes its position is called velocity.

The rate at which an object covers a certain distance is known as speed.

It is a vector quantity

It is a scalar quantity

Velocity can be zero, negative, or positive.

The speed can never be negative.

The velocity of the object changes with the change in direction.

The average speed will continue to count even if the object changes direction.

An object may possess different velocities but at the same speed.

The speed may or may not be equal to velocity.

Velocity (v) = ΔX/Δt; where v is the average velocity, Δt is the time and Δx is the displacement.

Speed (V) = ΔS/Δt; where 'v' is the average speed, 't' is the time taken and S is the distance traveled.

Example: A train going towards the south direction with 20 m/s with no change in its direction.

Example: A sports bike traveling at 50 m/s would go from 0 m/s to 50 m/s. Also, it can change its direction.

EXPLANATION:

As we know the velocity is a vector quantity. Hence the statement of option 2 is wrong.
