A Freon 12 simple saturation cycle operates at temperature of 35°C and –15°C for the condenser and evaporator. If the refrigeration effect produced by the cycle is 111.5 kJ/kg and the work required by the compressor is 27.2 kJ/kg, the value of COP will be nearly

Correct Answer - Option 1 : 4.1

Concept:

The COP of a refrigeration system is given by

\(COP = \frac{{Refrigeration\;effect\;}}{{Work\;Input}}\)

Calculation:

Given

Refrigeration effect produced = 111.5 kJ/kg

Work required by compressor = 27.2 kJ/kg

Now

COP = 111.5/27.2 = 4.1
