Correct Answer - Option 3 : Columnar epithelium

The correct answer is Columnar epithelium.

  • The columnar epithelium:
    • It is located in the digestive tract in the stomach, large intestine, small intestine, and functions as a barrier to bacteria and other microbes but permits the absorption of digested food.
    • Stratified squamous epithelium cells are present in parts of the body where constant abrasion takes place, eg., the outer layer of skin, inner lining of the mouth, esophagus, and vagina.
    • Spindle fibres are protein structures that arise from centrioles in a cell during mitosis (functions in a separation of chromatids during cell division).
    • Cuboidal epithelium is located in kidney tubules, glandular ducts, ovaries, and the thyroid gland(functions in protection, secretion, and absorption.

  • The glandular epithelium:
    • It is a type of epithelial tissue that covers the glands (both exocrine and endocrine) of our body.
    • Their main function is secretion.
    • Both endocrine and exocrine glands produce their secretions through the glandular epithelium via special cells called goblet cells.
  • Cuboidal epithelium:
    • The tissue is made of cube-shaped cells.
    • It forms the lining of kidney tubules and ducts of salivary glands.
  • Stratified squamous epithelium:
    • These are found in nearly every organ system where the body comes into close contact with the outside environment – from the skin to the respiratory, digestive, excretory, and reproductive systems.
    • They also protect the body from desiccation and water loss.
