Calculate the horse power of the motor of an elevator, which can carry 10 persons of average mass 60kg through a vertical height of 20m in 30s. [Take g = 10N/kg]

Total mass of 10 persons = 60 x 10 = 600kg 

F = mg = 600 x 10 = 6000N 

displacement = h = 20m t = 30s 

work done = w = F x h = 6000 x 20J
