Given 4p + 7 = – 21 

⇒ 4p + 7 – 7 = – 21 – 7 (Subtract 7 on both sides) 

⇒ 4p = – 28

⇒ 4p/4 = -28/4 (Divide by 4 on both sides)

⇒ p = – 7

Check:

Substitute p = – 7 in 4p + 7 = – 21 

LHS = 4p + 7 

= 4(- 7) + 7 

= – 28 + 7 

= – 21 = RHS 

Hence verified.
