The Mariners set out on a bright, sunny day on a cheerful optimistic note. The weather undergoes an unexpected change; the ship is overtaken by a terrible storm and is forced to change direction and the Mariners find themselves in an icy cold region; they feel trapped; the ship is motionless. An Albatross appears from nowhere and alights on the ship. The arrival of the Albatross is followed by a south wind; the ship starts moving; the Mariners he have a sigh of relief and the Albatross is considered a bird of good omen and is fed by the sailors. All of a sudden, without any rhyme or reason the Mariner kills the Albatross with his cross-bow.
