The two sisters Mrs. Slater and Mrs. Jordan are selfish and greedy. They are hypocrites as they maintain double standards. Both of them try to pinch grandfather’s belongings. Mrs. Slater wanted the bureau, the clock and the slippers whereas Elizabeth Jordan wanted his watch. There is a terrible sense of irresponsibility shown towards their father. None of them cared to go up to his room. All they wanted were the materialistic things that he owned. Both sisters are mercenary of lone and are insensitive. Moreover, they are jealous of each other and each wants to pull the other down. They tried to surpass each other even in the wearing of mourning dress. Their attitude shown towards their father was highly irresponsible as they did not show care, lone and affection towards him.
