i) 2xy, 7xy

7xy – 2xy = (7 – 2) xy = 5xy

ii) 5a2, 10a2

10a -5a = (10-5) a= 5a2

iii)  12y, 3y

3y – 12y = (3 – 12)y = -9y

iv) 6x2y, 4x2y

4x2y – 6x2y = (4 – 6) x2y = -2x2y

v) 6xy,-12xy

(-12xy) – 6xy = (-12 – 6) xy = -18xy
