The ancient Mariner describes that when the ship entered the silent sea there started a period of stagnation. They were completely motionless in the middle of the sea. The ship was stuck and didn’t move at all. It looked like an immobile painted ship. Similarly, there was no movement in the sea or in the waves. The sea itself appeared totally motionless like a painted sea.
