All the mariners ‘old and young’ were assured in their dreams that the spirit of the killed albatross plagued and troubled them. The spirit was following them from the land of mist and snow. It was nine fathom deep in the sea. It was responsible for all their troubles and woes. It was the spirit of the albatross who was killed by the ancient Mariner in a senseless fit of madness.
