8. Account for the fact that when chlorine is passed through a fluoride solution, no reaction takes place. (Given \( E _{ F _{2} / 2 F ^{-}}^{0}=2.87 V ; E _{ Cl _{2} / 2 Cl ^{-}}^{0}=1.36 V \) ).

Ans:- There is no reaction because chlorine is less reactive than fluorine.
Explanation:-
1)if we consider the reactivity of the different ion, high reactive ion can displace a lower reactive ion from its salt solution.
2) chlorine is less reactive as compared to fluorine. This is because the reactivity of the halogen decreases as we go down a group in the periodic table.
3) chlorine cannot displce fluorine from sodium fluorine because of the reason

There is no reaction take place.

because the reduction potential of chlorine\( (E^o_{Cl_2/2Cl^-}=1.36v)\) is less than the reduction potential of fluorine \((E^o_{F_2/2F^-}=2.8 7v)\)

it means, fluorine is more reactive than chlorine because of the chlorine can not oxidized F- to fluorine, And no reaction take place.
