In the peripheral tissue and in vascular cells as well, there is a requirement of cholestrol which is provided by new synthesis in the cells and by a delivery from low density lipids. In this process when level of low density lipids is high they accumulate in the artery wall where they oxidised and taken up by foam cells in a process that leads to the development and progression of atherosclerosis. Now for inhibiting this stage will requirement of High density lipids will oppose atherosclerosis directly, by removing cholestrol from foam cells, done by inhibiting the oxidation of LDLs was occuring artery walls. So we can say that HDL-cholesterol interrupts the process of artherogenesis.
