A game has 6 certain number of blue, red or black tokens. If you draw a token at random, the odds of getting a blue token are 1:2 and and the odds against getting a red token are 5:1.

a) If there are 32 blue tokens in this game, how many chips are there altogether?

b) If a token is drawn at random, what are the odds of against getting a black token.

The odds in favour: The ratio of the number of ways that an outcome can occur compared to how many ways it cannot occur.

Given that getting a blue token are 1 : 2.

\(\therefore\) x + 2x = 6

⇒ x = 2

Hence,  there is 2 blue tokens out of 6 tokens.

Also, 5y + y = 6

⇒ y = 1

Hence, there is 1 red token out of 6 tokens.

\(\therefore\) There is 3 black tokens out of 6 given tokens.

(b) odd against getting a black taken = 3/3 = 1 = 1 : 1
