Assertion: on reaction with alcoholic \( KOH \) gives \( CH _{3} CH = C ^{\prime} HCH _{3} \) as a result of dehydrohalogenation.

Reason: Elimination reaction takes place in accordance with Markovnikovs rule

(1) If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion

(2) If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion

(3) If assertion is true but reason is false

Correct option is (3) If assertion is true but reason is false

\(CH_3 -CH_2 - \overset{Br\\|}{CH} -CH_3 \xrightarrow{AlC.KOH} \underset{\text{more substituted alkene form}\\{\text{ predominantly this called }\\{\text{Saytzeff's product.}}}}{CH_3 - CH = CH - CH_3}\)

Mankonikov's rule's are apply on the hydrohalogenation of alkene not in the dehydrohalogenation of halo alkanes. Saytzeff's rules are applied in the dehydrohalogenation of halo alkane.

Therefore, Assertion is correct but reason is incorrect.
