If the equivalent weight of a compound A is M_A/4 when it reacts with compund B whose equivalent weight is M_B/5,then 4 mole of A requires (where M_A and M_B are molecul ar weights of A and B respectively) a)4 mol of B b)5 mol of B c)less than 4 mole of B d)more than 5 mole of B

As per law of equivalent priportion reactants should react in proportion of respective equivalent weights.

So M_A/4 g of A will react with M_B/5 g B

So 1/4 th mole of A reacts with 1/5th mole of B

Hence 4moles of A reacts with 16/5 moles of B which is less than 4moles

Hence option (c) is correct

Correct option is c) less than 4 mole of B

Equivalent weight of compound A = \(\frac{M_A}4\)

Equivalent weight of compound B = \(\frac{M_B}5\)

∴ Number of equivalents in 4 mol of A = 4 x 4 = 16 equivalent

∴ To complete reaction of A WIth Compound B,

Compound B required = 16 equivalent

= or 3.2 mole of Compound B

Therefore, we required, less than 4 mol of compound B.
