An index number obtained by comparing the current period with the recent past period is called a chain base index number.

It’s formula is as follows : Chain base index number

\(= \frac{Value\, of\, the\, variable \,in\, the\, current\, period} {Value\, of \,the \,variable \,in\, the\, preceding \,period } × 100\)
