The energy of an electron in the first orbit of hydrogen is -13.6 eV. Which one of the following is the second excited state of electron in hydrogen atom?

a. -3.4 eV

Correct option is c. -1.5 eV

Correct option is (c) -1.5 eV

 \(E=\frac{KZ^2}{n^2}\)

\(E_1=-13.6=\frac{K1^2}{1^2}\)    (for  n = 1)

K= -13.6

\(\therefore\) \(E_2=-13.6\times\frac{1^2}{3^2}\)  (second excited means n = 3)

\(E_2=-1.5\;eV.\)
