The earth is the only planet of the solar system which contains water in abundance. Hence it is called a ‘watery planet’. Three fourth of the earth’s total surface is covered with water.
Distribution of water: Oceans contain about 97 percent of the total water available on the earth’s surface. The remaining three percent is the fresh water found in the form of snow and ice on the ground and in lakes and rivers.
