In the relation t = k√(pr3/σ),

The quantities t, p , r and σ refer to the time of oscillation, density, radius and surface tension, respetively. The relative error, in the determination of σ , is calculated on the basis of the relative errors, of 0.5%, 0.1% and 0.2% in the measurement of p , r and t, respectively. This relative error would equal:

(1) 1.2%

(2) 0.8%

(3) 0.6%

(4) 0.4%

(1) 1.2%

We have,

t = k√(pr3/σ)

∴ σ = kpr3/t2

∴ Δσ/σ = Δσ/p + 3Δr/r + 2Δt/t

= 0.5% + 3(0.1%) + 2(0.2%)

= 1.2%
